I found this really interesting article about Flannery O'Connor which talks about her being raised in the South by a very Catholic family. Her works reflect her highly religious character. In the pieces we have read, "A Good Man is Hard to Find" and "The Displaced Person" the theme of religion was obviously present, however, it was slightly discrete.
Flannery O'Connor is definetly a different writer than many we have dealt with thus far. I can't decide how I would rate her. She is an interesting writer, but at some points seems to just lose me. Hopefully, after completing "Revelation" I will have a more established opinion of her.

Unfortunately I don't know if you will gain any new liking for her, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. All I can really say is best of luck to you, and I hope you have an open mind. Perhaps I am just being a little too hard on O'Connor, but I can't really empathize with her writing as a Christian myself.

I am the last person who would want to read something that is focused around religion. But I for one loved O'Connor, I know I didn't the first time but reading it again after some time makes you appreciate the style of her writing. She is creative and lets herself shine through the characters. It is something that not everyone will like, I know I didn't the first time around.

I didn't like how she chose the characters to incorporate religion. I felt she could of went about portraying the religious aspect in other ways. Why the violence? Was there any need for it. I feel she could of gotten her point across in a less violent manner. I read "Revelation" and it was not what I was expecting compared to the extreme violent actions of these two previous works of hers.
