Streetcar named Desire is really appealing to me. While reading this play, the characters, Stella and Blanche, made me think of the relationship I have with one of my sisters. My sister is most like Blanche, who needs constant attention and needs to be reminded of her appearance because she is noticing she is aging. She seems to be jealous of her younger sister Stella because she has a house, a husband, and a life outside of the plantation they grew up on. I really am enjoying this play and I am anxious to see how it is portrayed in the film version.

I agree, we all can see ourselves with these characters. I can se emyself and my sister's in those characters,t he fights, the little known understandings between us, and some of us who can just stand what the other does. Sisters are the strangest beings but we make the best stories lol.

I like how you can compare your reality to these characters. I'm having a real hard time so far getting into this play. I'll have to try to do some comparisons!

I agree, my older sister is similiar to Stella. All she cares about is her apearence and her boyfriend. She will do anything he wants her to no matter what. I can also relate her to other people, I can definately see the reality in the play.

I think you're right in pointing out the jealousy factor. I think that Blanche very may well be jealous of the relationship and life Stella has outside the plantation. I feel that Blanche feels that Stella was able to get away from the plantation, and the burden was left on her. I also feel that Blanche is a lonely desperate thirty year old who was mistreated by men, and she is probably envious of their relationship.

I think you are right about the jealousy as well. Maybe all Blanche wants is that stability of having a husband, a home and is starting a family. My sister is like this to my oldest brother. She feels that a burden was left on her, as blanche does. I like stories you can compare your life to and see yourself in. It helps in the understanding and how much i enjoy a book.

I too have the habit of placing myself within stories. Or at least comparing aspects or characteristics of my life. Although I am not a girl, I do kind of have a relationship similar to the sister's with my brother. I am the younger one, and even though I doubt he would ever really look down on me or anything like that, I do feel very burdoned to try and convince him of my success.
