The film we are watching in class, A Streetcar Named Desire, is much different than what I had pictured in my own mind while reading the play.
I had pictured Blanche as looking much older and with dark hair, because of how she portrays herself in the written play. I think she doesn't look old at all. I actually thought Stella looked a lot older than Blanche in the film.
Stella was what I had pictured. Laid back and quiet.
I also didn't picture Stanley to look and act like he does in the film. He is very masculine (the tight shirts showing his muscles) and his deep voice make him a powerful and tough character.
We talked about these things in class today, but I just thought it was interesting to see how the director used and altered the written play to make the film work. I enjoy seeing these differences.
Also, I wanted to just say how it's funny, maybe I am not the only one, but when the characters say a certain line that has come directly out of the written play I say it in my mind and know exactly where the line is in the book. I just thought that was interesting.

I always wonder how someone pictures a character or a scene in their mind when they are reading, because everyone must have a different picture. While you thought that Blanche would look much older and have dark hair, I pictured her looking similar to what the film showed, because she was still an attractive woman, but at a closer look, you can see she is aging. I did picture her as looking older, but with Hollywood, I couldn't imagine them making Blanche look like an "old maid." I thought Stella seemed fairly youthful, but I can see why you thought she looked older because of some of her facial characteristics. I'm sure everyone had a different view, as well.

It is weird to think about it! Everyone must see the characters differently when just reading about them..because it is like your imagination is making the visuals for you...it would be interesting to find out how everyone thought the characters looked before we saw the movie!
I kinda pictured Stella as being a larger woman probably because of how Blanche talked to her at the beginning of the play about how she put on weight in her hips..and i pictured her not really being that attractive and sort of plain. In the movie version, I was surprised to see what she looked like because it was so different then how i pictured her. Blanche looked similiar to how i pictured her to be, and stanley was better looking than how i imagined!!!

I also didn't think that Blanche looked as old as they were making it seem, I thought she was pretty. It is a little funny hearing a line that I know I heard in the book, it is neat to see how they act it out.
