The last two readings "Delta Autumn" and "Go Down, Moses" I felt were much simpler to read and understand than the others. I think maybe this is because I have now become familiar with the characters as well as with Faulkner's writing style and techniques. I actually found myself thinking a lot about these stories after I read them. The other pieces we read throughout this book I think I just got somewhat frustrated with and so I didn't get too in depth with them. I do think this text was a difficult read, however it brought up some interesting themes and ideas. I probably wouldn't pick this book up again to read independently because it was geared more towards a male audience. It wasn't too appealing to me. I am anxious though for the upcoming readings, they seem to sound interesting and good.

I thought the same excact thing! I actually enjoyed reading these last two stories, "delta autumn" and "go down moses" because I felt as though I really understood what was happening..for the rest of the book, I was really confused and I did not enjoy reading the other stories, because I found it so difficult to follow along. I do think that the fact that they are at the end and by now we know the characters alittle better helped to make these last 2 stories easier to read and understand. I felt alot of emotions while reading delta autumn, especially the feeling of "endness". The way Issac remembers hunting/camp to be like back in the old days, is slowly drifting away, and just the fact that he is old and his time here will soon be over.. in a sense it is the "end" of how things used to be.

It was indeed a tough read with confusion of characters and the time frame sometimes distrought. Also i think it was directed towards a male audience, however some of the discussions in class helped me put the readings into my own words and perceptions, which aided to understanding the underlying themes faulkner was proposing.

I agree completely, I had such a hard time understanding Faulkner's style. I am glad we are done with it. I also think that it did make it a little easier once you got to know who was who - which was not easy either.

Overall this book was one of the most difficult readings I have ever encountered. I too thought the last to parts were easier because I finally understood each character. Also, class discussion helped me better understand the book. As far as the male audience direction I think you were right. Today, in class we discussed that women's presence was very little in Faulkner's writings. Also, that hunting and outdoors activity was the basis of the story and that is and was not primarily a women's interest.
