The Katherine Anne Porter readings to me are very interesting and I like them a lot. Maybe this is because Faulkner was much more difficult to read and to me did not catch my attention. However, in a way I can see a similarity with Porter's style of writing and Faulkner's. Porter is more clear in defining this style though. They both seem to make connections to the wilderness and nature throughout their pieces. They also make use of the elderly to portray a mentoring/role model type of character in their stories. This has been present throughout the pieces we have read in Porter. As a writer, she is clear, concise, and to the point. That is the type of writing and reading that I like. I actaully borrowed the Porter book from the library and have been thinking that I might even want to read the other pieces she has written (when I get free time) :)
I have really enjoyed reading her pieces and being able to make connections with them.

I agree, I really liked these pieces and I was also thinking about reading more of her work. She is much more clear in her writing than Faulkner was - I did not enjoy reading him but I liked the stories once I understood them.

I wrote along the same lines, she was an easier author than faulkner. I never thought about the connection between them though with nature, that is a great point and it is present in both author's works. I would like to see how Miranda develops as a character ins ome of the other pieces by Porter.

I agree with you how a book is much easier and more enjoyable to read when you can personally relate with the characters. Porter and Faulkner both utilize their characters very well when trying to prove points or to relate a common theme throughout their work.

I enjoyed Porter also. Her characters are so interesting. I do see the similarities with Faulkner's writing too. I think if Faulkner did not go on and on and on with run on sentences it would have been easier to grasp, but his characters were interesting like Porter's.
I really like how Porter has made the women in her stories to be independent and strong willed, right down to the youngest girl, Miranda.

Porter is an author I would choose to read again. She is very much like Faulkner in that her writings contain very complex and deep issues such as interracial relationships and objects used as symbols, but ish has a more direct and understandable way of writing.

I agree, I really enjoyed reading Porter. I wish that we could read more from her. Her style of writing and story telling is much more female oriented.
